Remove tags from resources

The Remove Tags wizard lets you remove tags from multiple resources of the same type in a single action.

📝 Note: Tags inherited from a K8S Cluster cannot be removed at the VM level. You must remove them at the K8S Cluster.

Before you begin

Role: a user with the Remove Tag permission in the Tagging module.

Step 1: Open the Remove Tags wizard

Click Actions ▾Remove Tags.

Step 2: Select resources

  1. Select the resource-type tab (Instance, Subnet, etc.).
  2. Select a VPC from the dropdown if you need to filter.
  3. Check the resources you want to remove tags from.
  4. Click Next ›.

Step 3: Choose the tags to remove

The list shows only the tags that currently exist on the selected resources:

Displayed stateMeaningSelectable
Normal checkboxA direct tag on all of the selected resourcesYes
"applied to n/total selected"A direct tag present on only some of the resourcesYes
"also inherited on n VM(s) — won't be removed"A direct tag that is also inherited on some VMsYes — the direct tag is removed; the inherited tag remains
"Inherited from {cluster} — remove at cluster"An inherited-only tag, with no direct copyNo

Step 2 — Choose the tags to remove

  1. Select the tags you want to remove (up to 10).
  2. Click Next ›.

Step 4: Review and apply

Check the warning banners:

  • Yellow banner "Removing these tags from the selected K8S cluster(s) will also untag {n} member VM(s)" — removing them from the K8S Cluster also removes the tags from its member VMs.
  • Red banner "Some tags cannot be removed from member VMs" — an inherited tag on a member VM is not removed even when you remove it on the cluster (this is a tag assigned directly to the VM, not an inherited one).

Click Remove to confirm.

Result

The tags are removed from the selected resources. Inherited tags remain unchanged.
