Create and assign your first tag
Create your first tag and assign it to a resource — all in about 5 minutes.
Before you begin
- You are signed in.
- You have at least one resource (Instance, Subnet, etc.) in the system.
Step 1: Create a tag
- In the left navigation bar, select Tagging.
- Click + Create Tag.
- Fill in the details:
- Key:
environment - Value:
production - Color: choose
red
- Key:
- Click Create.
The environment: production tag appears in the list.
Step 2: Assign the tag to a resource
- Click Actions ▾ → select Assign Tags.
- In Step 1 (Select Resources):
- Select the resource-type tab, for example Instance.
- Select the Instances you want to tag.
- Click Next ›.
- In Step 2 (Choose Tags):
- Find and select the
environment: productiontag. - Click Next ›.
- Find and select the
- In Step 3 (Review & Apply):
- Review the resource list and the tag.
- Click Apply.
The tag is assigned and appears in the Tags column of each Instance.
