Create a Secret
A Secret is the unit that stores confidential information in Key/Value format inside a Secret Engine. Each Secret can hold multiple Key/Value pairs and supports versioning, so you can track its change history.
Prerequisites
- You have a Secret Engine to store the Secret in. See Create a Secret Engine.
1. Open the Secret Engine detail
On Secret Engine Detail, select the Secret Engine to add a Secret to.
2. Start creating the Secret
Click Create.
3. Enter the Secret details
On the Create New Version screen, enter a Name for the Secret and its Secret data in Key/Value format. See the Key Vault field reference for what each field means.
4. Add Key/Value pairs and save
Click Add for each Key/Value pair you need. Once you've declared all the Secret data, click Create to save. The system sends a confirmation message and creates the new Secret.
Next steps
- View and Update a Secret — check or change the Secret's value.
- Delete a Secret — remove the Secret once it's no longer needed.
- Create an Auth Method — let an application authenticate and reach this Secret.
