Overview
FPT Object Storage stores any amount of data as objects in buckets, and works with the same S3 tools, SDKs, and applications as Amazon S3. Use it for application data, media, backups, and static websites, with data centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and pay-as-you-go pricing.
What you can use it for
- Application data and media: store images, videos, and documents for websites and web applications. See Use FPT Object Storage as a WordPress media server.
- Static websites: serve HTML, CSS, and JavaScript directly from a bucket. See Host a static website.
- Backup and archiving: keep copies of data, protected with versioning and lifecycle rules. See Configure a bucket.
- Moving data between providers: bring data from another S3-compatible provider. See Migrate bucket data.
Key concepts
| Concept | Description |
|---|---|
| Bucket | A logical container for objects. Each bucket belongs to one region. |
| Object | A file stored in a bucket, together with its metadata. Objects have no fixed format. |
| Folder | Object Storage has no real folders. The Portal groups objects that share a path prefix, such as photos/2026/, and shows them as folders. |
| Region | The location where a bucket and its data are stored. |
| Endpoint | The HTTPS address that S3 clients and SDKs use to reach a region, for example https://s3-hcm04.fptcloud.com. Each region has its own endpoint. |
| Access Key and Secret Key | The credential pair that clients and SDKs use to authenticate. |
Regions and endpoints
Each region has its own endpoint, and a bucket is reachable only through the endpoint of the region where it was created. To see the regions available to your account and copy their endpoints, open Object Storage on FPT Unify Portal, select the Access Key tab, and choose a Region. See Manage Access Keys.
Both virtual-hosted style (https://bucket-name.s3-hcm04.fptcloud.com) and path style (https://s3-hcm04.fptcloud.com/bucket-name) are supported.
Ways to access your data
| Method | Best for | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| FPT Unify Portal | Creating buckets, uploading files up to 100 GB, and configuring permissions and bucket settings in a web interface. | Manage storage on the Portal |
| S3 clients | Managing data from the command line or a desktop application, without writing code. | Connect with S3 clients |
| AWS SDKs | Reading and writing data from your own application. | SDK reference |
To open Object Storage on the Portal, log in to FPT Unify Portal, select a Project, and choose Object Storage.
Choose how to grant access
| Option | Scope | Available on | Use when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admin Access Key | Full access to every bucket in the account. | All clusters | You administer the account yourself. Never share it or embed it in an application. |
| SubUser | A role (None, Read, Write, Read - Write, or Full), optionally narrowed per bucket with Bucket Policy. | All clusters except HCM-04 | You need to share limited access with a person or an application. |
| IAM User | Exactly what its JSON policy allows. | HCM-04 only | You need fine-grained, per-application permissions. |
Limits to plan for
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Upload size on the Portal | 100 GB per upload. Use an S3 client or SDK for larger files. |
| Admin Access Keys | 5 key pairs per region. |
| Access Keys per SubUser | 2 key pairs. |
| Access Keys per IAM User | 2 key pairs. |
| Secret Key visibility | Shown only once, when the key is created. |
For bucket naming rules, see Manage buckets.
Next steps
- Set up your account and request Object Storage quota.
- Create your first bucket.
- Create an Access Key or a SubUser to connect tools and applications.
